Pre-GED Instructor

Reports To: Director of Education

Status: Full Time (5 days per week) Exempt

Responsibilities:

1. To provide pre-GED instruction to adult students, ages 16 & up, to help them obtain necessary skills to be able to read, write and compute proficiently in order to qualify the GED exam. Direct the program in a manner that supports student retention and daily attendance consistent with the Adult Learning Standards while assisting students in meeting education goals.

A. Select, score and interpret TABE
B. Deliver appropriate pre-GED instruction
C. Develop, implement, and evaluate appropriate instructional programs
D. Establish and maintain a daily schedule of instruction
E. Provide group instruction as scheduled by the agency
F. Report attendance, test scores and outcomes as requested by funders

2. Provide indirect services to students.

A. Maintain documentation of evaluation, ongoing instructional programs, student progress, and communications
B. Prepare reports and collect data as requested by the Director of Education and required by private and public funders
C. Attend related meetings relevant to program and students
D. Consult counselors, administrators, and co-workers regarding pre-GED program
E. Present and interpret program to a variety of audiences in a variety of settings, if necessary
F. Consult with education and employment counselor to develop and maintain student’s educational and employment plan
G. Provide a comfortable and supportive learning environment
H. Adhere to curriculum

3. 3. Professional Development:
A. Attend meetings and participate in department committees and 15 hours of in-service, as requested
B. Participate in the supervision/evaluation process

Qualifications

1. Bachelor of Arts/Science degree required
2. Current NYS teacher certification preferred
3. At least, 2 years of successful teaching experience with an adult population
