Associate Director of Institutional Giving

Major Function and Purpose

Work with the Director of External Affairs to develop and implement a focused strategy for seeking, securing and retaining grants primarily among corporations and foundations, with some responsibilities in the area of city/state/federal government sources. The focus of this position will be the identification and solicitation of major donor prospects through research and grant writing.

Essential Job Functions

• Prospect research to identify potential public and private funding sources

• Preparation of proposals to corporations, private philanthropic foundations, and government agencies

• Preparation of ancillary materials related to public and private funding sources

• Support services related to public and private funding sources: maintaining grant activity calendars, conducting follow-up with funding agencies, preparing monthly activity listings, and all related written/oral communications in this arena

• Conduct internal meetings to identify and prioritize project needs, discuss grant eligibility, and coordinate the submission of information from multiple departments for proposals and interim and final reports.

• Serve as a resource for the Director of External Affairs and other departments as needed to provide information, research, analysis, written reports, and recommendations

• Coordinate and plan funding program activities with staff

• Review revenues and expenditures and projects status to ensure that proper expenditures are made for grants in an appropriate and timely manner, providing interim and final reports to funders

• Provide support in the writing and production of newsletters and annual reports

• Along with another team member, provide data base support for Raiser’s Edge

• Perform other duties as required by departmental need or Director of External Affairs

Qualifications

• A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree

• Six years of related experience and a record of positive results

• Excellent oral and written communications skills including research, writing, editing, and proofreading

• Ability to participate as a team player

• Excellent interpersonal skills

• Ability to prioritize and balance multiple responsibilities and tasks effectively and efficiently while ensuring quality outcomes

• Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge highly preferred.
