Assistant Education Center Coordinator

Function

The Assistant Coordinator will support the Center Coordinator and the Education Staff in delivering literacy services to students. This position is directly related to management policies and general business operations of Literacy Partners, Inc., its students, and volunteers.

Responsibilities

1. Assisting Center Coordinator and tutors in the delivery of services to adult students ages 16+, on-site, four nights per week (Monday through Thursday, 1 p.m to 9 p.m., Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.). These duties include, but are not limited to:

a. Helping to plan lessons with tutors and education staff.
b. Writing and editing nightly announcements and other communications for and about the center.
c. Overseeing tutorial groups, as needed.
d. Substituting for Coordinator, when necessary.
e. Substituting for tutors, when necessary.
f. Opening and closing sites.
g. Running errands related to center activities.
h. Assists in curriculum revisions.
i. Assists in delivery of instructionally sound programs.

2. Assisting Center Coordinator in supporting and supervising tutors. Providing formal and informal follow-up, modeling lessons, assisting with curriculum development and revision.
3. Assisting Center Coordinator in supporting students. Meeting with students formally and informally, tracking student progress and providing guidance as needed.
4. Documenting attendance. Collecting daily/monthly attendance records and submitting monthly attendance reports.
5. Tracking and reporting student progress.
6. Testing and recording/reporting scores.
7. Helping to facilitate and plan special programs and meetings related to Center activities (such as end-of-semester “Celebrations,” tutor in-services, tutor pair meetings).
8. Participating as LPI staff in education staff meetings and committees.

Qualifications

1. Bachelors degree required.
2. Literacy training and/or experience, preferably with adult students.
3. Strong organization, communication and interpersonal skills.
