Give Now
Literacy Partners supporters share significant rewards from their donations. Though their gifts, donors get the personal fulfillment of knowing that they have made a meaningful investment in the community.
Donors also experience the satisfaction of knowing that they are helping to bring the joy of reading into the homes of their less fortunate fellow New Yorkers. The following page outlines the many ways you can donate right away, but there are other options of Planned Giving.

IRA
This provision is set to expire December 31, 2009, so act now!
The Pension Protection Act of 2006 allows donors wishing to contribute to Literacy Partners from their IRA account. This “IRA charitable rollover” provision allows a taxpayer to contribute funds from his/her IRA directly to Literacy Partners. The funds distributed from the IRA are excluded from the taxpayer’s taxable income for the year. Therefore, no income tax is paid on the IRA distribution. Further, the taxpayer does not take the contribution as a charitable deduction on Schedule A of their federal income tax return. This provision is a great benefit to donors and charities, allowing all of the IRA distribution given to charity to be free of income tax.
Requirements for a qualified charitable distribution from your IRA:
• Taxpayer/donor must be at least 70½ years of age.
• Distributions can be made from a traditional or Roth IRA.
• Maximum amount eligible for this transfer is $100,000 per taxpayer per year. A married couple could donate up to $200,000 provided each spouse owns at least one IRA and can each make a qualified charitable distribution of $100,000 from their plans.
• Transfer of funds must be made directly to Literacy Partners by the IRA trustee. This means that the taxpayer/donor must never receive the funds.
• Taxpayer/donor can receive no value in return from the charitable organization.
• The charitable entity must provide written verification of the contribution and that no value was received.
