GO Day 2011 at Literacy Partners
Sharon Lowenheim, President, NAPO-NY (front row, second from right), Stephanie Shalofsky, Marketing Director of the chapter (front row, second from left), and Alexa Bonilla, Literacy Partners Director of Education (center), with volunteers and staff from their organizations during GO Day at Literacy Partners.
On Friday, January 21st, 16 members of the New York chapter of the National Association of Professional Organizers (NAPO-NY) volunteered their services at Literacy Partners in observance of GO (Get Organized) Month. The volunteers, each an organizational professional in her/his own right, contributed 55 hours to re-organizing various storage elements at Literacy Partners headquarters. Another 66 hours of muscle were added to the endeavor by 11 Literacy Partners staff.
Demands on Literacy Partners storage and space escalated in recent years when it sublet a portion of space to an organization with a mission and interests similar to its own. As a result, sizable amounts of books, materials, and supplies were displaced, and storage spaces became cramped and congested. With assistance from NAPO-NY volunteers, a good deal of this situation was remedied, and some filing was done.
NAPO established GO Month seven years ago to show individuals and businesses the value of getting organized in both their personal and professional lives. During GO Month, NAPO-NY members share their knowledge and expertise and help individuals and companies get organized.
